Rat Café: Coming Soon to a Pop-Up Store Near You

It’s not everyday you get the opportunity to dine with animals, but San Francisco is giving people the unique chance to eat with one of the most unlikely dinner guests. Rats.

The San Francisco Dungeon restaurant is giving customers a chance to enjoy the Black Rat Cafe. For $49.99, you can sip coffee at a bistro-style table while being surrounded by rats

People who dine with the rats can also enjoy all-you-can-drink coffee, water, tea and pastries. However, all of the food will be taken away before the rats come and join the guests.

According to the SF Gate, all of the rats are from a nonprofit rat rescue, Rattie Ratz, which is based in Clayton.

The SF Dungeon has yet to open up ticket sales, but the rat dates are July 1 and July 8. For more information, click here.

Sumptuous design and superlative living await at San Rafael’s 255 Highland Ave.

Set on roughly 2.5 acres, the lavish estate exudes elegance with a sprawling pool patio and virtually endless vistas to Mount Tamalpais and the Bay Bridge.

“This is one of Marin County’s most architecturally significant estates,” said Tracy McLaughlin of Pacific Union Real Estate, who is listing the Hamptonesque five-bedroom for $3.995 million.

The home opens to a two-story foyer punctuated by a curved staircase and stone floor. An Ironies chandelier illuminates the space finished with coffered wall paneling. A wide entryway leads into a sumptuously appointed living room framing views of the Bay Bridge and water. Richly hued hardwood flooring graces the space that includes a curved window and a high ceiling.

Even the powder room basks in luxury. Here, a custom wall covering drapes the interior as a Caesarstone vanity stands beneath a high ceiling.

The office/library has floor-to-ceiling built-ins that bathe in sunlight. Oversize picture windows frame the surrounding landscape.

A dining area stands between the living room and kitchen. There’s a bay of windows overlooking the water as a modern chandelier lends additional character and texture to a ceiling studded with recessed lights.

An office nook tucked in the corner provides a discreet place for kids to do their homework or adults to sort through the mail. This nook acts as a pass-through into the kitchen, a pristine oasis of stainless steel appliances, Calcutta marble and Holly Hunt light fixtures. The freshly remodeled kitchen includes a spacious dining area and opens to an east-facing pool patio.

Off to the side of the kitchen stands a welcoming great room with a custom Oly light fixture, a resurfaced fireplace and custom cabinetry.

Indoor/outdoor living reigns supreme in the Bay Area, and 255 Highland Ave. delivers with a stunning pool patio directed toward Mount Tamalpais. The estate’s rolling acreage descends down a hillside as the pool and spa shimmer in the sun. A covered patio houses a built-in grill and the patio stands beside a verdant lawn.

A resort-caliber master suite with a palatial spa bathroom dominates the upper level. There’s a walk-in steam shower beside a jetted soaking tub in the bathroom, while the sleeping quarters includes a vaulted ceiling and raised fireplace. Dual doors off the bedroom open to a private deck overlooking the pool and surrounding landscape.

The East Bay estate of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and his wife, Ayesha, went on sale again with a lower price of $3.5 million on Sunday.

The Mediterranean-style villa with a modern flair was originally listed for $3.7 million in October 2016. The house never sold, and in February it was pulled from the market so Ayesha could use the kitchen as the set for her new cooking show “Ayesha’s Home Kitchen,” said co-listing agent Andy Read of Caldecott Properties.

The couple bought the 7,520-square-foot Walnut Creek home, with soaring 20-foot ceilings and outdoor patios off nearly every room, for $3.2 million in November 2016. But months later, they quickly changed their plans and put the home on the market, as reported previously on SFGATE

The five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath at 620 Sugarloaf Court is listed with Read and Ana O’Byrne of Caldecott Properties.

The Currys are asking $300,000 more than what they paid for the home less than a year ago, but they poured some $400,000 into upgrading it. The fully renovated kitchen has a massive Carrera marble island, a La Cornue range and two Sub-Zero refrigerators. The kitchen is where Ayesha Curry filmed shows like “Cookin’ with the Currys” and “Ayesha’s Home Kitchen” on the Food Network.

A new master bathroom has a steam shower, a BainUltra therapeutic tub and closet systems built-out by California Closets.

“They converted a traditional Mediterranean villa into a contemporary Santa Barbara one,” Read said.

The 28-year-old 2-time NBA MVP is a champ on the basketball court, and he’s also finding his way around Bay Area’s crazy real estate market, as reported previously on SFGATE.

He and his wife bought a Spanish hacienda-style home tucked among 10o-year old oaks in Orinda for $3.1 million in 2013 and made major improvements including adding a swimming pool, an outdoor kitchen, light fixtures, a putting green, a limestone bathtub and more. They also remodeled the kitchen and gave everything a fresh coat of paint. They sold the home last June for $4.65 million in June.

Last year, while living in the Walnut Creek house, they purchased the Alamo estate for $5.8 million— that’s $1.5 million off the property’s original $7.3 million asking price when it was first listed in October 2015.

Now their main residence, the traditional 10,290-square-foot brick mansion with gabled dormer windows has five bedrooms and sits on one-and-a-half-acres. It has an infinity-edge pool, manicured gardens and a play structure for the two Curry kids.
