That’s what homebuyers now pay for a typical house in the Sacramento region compared to buyers in San Francisco. And if history is any guide, that mounting price gap could have a big impact on Sacramento’s housing market and economy in the not-too-distant future.

The last time the spread between Bay Area median prices and Sacramento median prices grew so big was a decade ago, just before tens of thousands of Bay Area transplants arrived in Sacramento, turning a healthy housing market into a bona fide boom.

Since then, that wave of transplants has slowed to a drip, with barely more residents relocating from the Bay Area to Sacramento than heading in the other direction.

A San Francisco company has acquired the former MCI WorldCom data center in Rancho Cordova, in a deal valued at $30 million.

Digital Realty Trust Inc. said it recently completed its purchase of the 69,000- square-foot data facility from Telecom Real Estate Services.

The center is the company’s second in Rancho Cordova.

“The property is … expanding our presence in the Sacramento market,” said Scott Peterson, Digital Realty’s chief acquisitions officer.

The deal underscores the growing interest in Sacramento from high-tech companies, financial institutions and health care companies in the Bay Area to store their data.

Data centers the size of football fields are springing up in former Air Force bases and light industrial tracts in Sacramento’s suburbs.

Twitter Inc., and many of the new cloud computing startups in Silicon Valley now lease space in data centers in the capital region, which offers cheap electricity and inexpensive real estate, and is outside of seismic zones.

“It’s developing as a secondary market for data centers,” said Garrick Brown, director of research for Cassidy Turley Northern California, a commercial real estate firm.

Located at 11085 Sun Center Drive, Digital Realty’s data complex is a fully leased, single-story building off Highway 50 near Sunrise Boulevard.

It is close to the company’s 63,000-square-foot data center on Gold Camp Drive, which Digital Realty acquired in 2004.

Digital Realty is a real estate investment trust that specializes in ownership of high-tech data centers. The company has more than 98 properties around the world.

The seller, Telecom Real Estate Services or TRES, acquired the property in 2008 and conducted extensive upgrades, which include a new roof and a revamped air conditioning system.

Shared NFL stadium could be real treasure

With the 49ers and the Raiders needing new stadiums, talk heated up again earlier this week about the teams joining forces to build and share a facility.

The NFL reportedly has encouraged the teams to work together, much as the Giants and Jets did in New Jersey, but one obstacle stands in the way.

As they say in real estate: location, location, location.

The 49ers are working on a plan in Santa Clara, and Raiders boss Al Davis has repeatedly said Oakland is the best place for his team.

Is there a neutral site in the Bay Area that would be acceptable to both?

Many argue that Santa Clara would be ideal. Others have suggested Fremont, Jack London Square in Oakland and San Jose.

OK, we know it’s a bit crazy, but here’s a thought: Why not Treasure Island?

The man-made 400- acre island between the two Bay Bridge spans was created to host the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939-40 and it was initially planned as the site for San Francisco’s first international airport.

Sure, traffic would be a huge issue, but ferries could shuttle fans from all sides of the bay; how much fun would that be ? take the train from downtown Sacramento to Jack London Square, have breakfast, then hop a ferry to the game?

If you think ATT Park looks great on national TV, imagine how Treasure Island Stadium would look.

What to watch

Baseball, Giants at Cincinnati, 4:10 p.m., CSNBA: Ryan Vogelsong goes for the ninth victory in his dream season.

Today’s poll

Where should a shared football stadium in the Bay Area be built?

? San Francisco

? Oakland

? Santa Clara

? Treasure Island

? Both teams should have their own stadium

Vote above or leave your comments in the comment field; Or, go to www.sacbee.com/sports

Thursday’s poll results

Best free-agent cornerback the 49ers should target?

? Nnamdi Asomugha: 82%

? Antonio Cromartie: 3%

? Johnathan Joseph: 12%

? Ike Taylor: 3%

Total votes: 331
