Last week San Francisco gained more infamy for being overpriced when the average rent hit $3,458 a month. The rest of the Bay isn’t much cheaper, according to Zumper’s report on rental market action for April 2015.
The “Bay Area rents continue massive climb,” says Zumper. In fact, three of the six most pricey cities are right here. “San Jose was up over 10% to $2,040, behind only New York and Boston and now tied with DC as 4th most expensive market.” What is more frustrating, perhaps, for those locals who once looked to the East Bay for relief from the insanity of SF prices, is that now Oakland is the sixth most expensive in the country, with a median 1-br rent of $2,000.
What does the typical 1-br look like at the price in Oakland?
Check out a round up of current options near the median price point in the gallery up top.
Depressed? Maybe there is some hope: Oakland rent didn’t go up in April, remaining at this $2,000 median for a 1-bedroom, but then again, this amount is up 6.4% in the past quarter. What’s in store for Oakland as the rest of the Bay’s prices continue to climb? How much further can prices soar before they bump their heads on some kind of ceiling?
