SellUsedBooks.com, an online book buying company, continues philanthropic endeavors to promote literacy for the underprivileged, with offer to donate 1,000 children’s books to a local non-profit cause.

San Leandro, CA (PRWEB) June 29, 2012 (PRWEB) June 29, 2012

SellUsedBooks.com, where people can sell books back online, is an internet book business located in the San Francisco Bay Area. SellUsedBooks are looking to expand upon their altruistic works by seeking out a local non-profit organization to donate 1,000 children’s book. The goal is to reach out to find a locally based charitable cause, whose mission is to help provide disadvantaged children with reading resources they may otherwise lack. Since its inception in 2002, SellUsedBooks has believed that there is a direct link between using reading as a meaningful activity to help shape young people’s identity, so that they may be more focused on their future with a more positive outlook.

With successful partnerships in the past with Goodwill Industries International, The Salvation Army, Danny Foundation, The Hope Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and others, the goal with this particular outreach is more localized, with an intent to give back to the community. Marketing Specialist, Andrew Ha, has always felt that if you are fortunate enough to be able to share some of your success, you should do so by finding the appropriate worthy causes. “Ever since I can remember, supporting literacy has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up as a youngster in Honolulu, Hawaii, I had witnessed first hand how learning to read better prepares children to achieve their potential by developing stronger language skills. With this campaign, we are once again looking to give back, and seeking a locally based non–profit community program in need of children’s books.”

In order to promote literacy and encourage children to learn to love reading, the donation offer will include a wide assortment of 1,000 children’s books with varying reading levels and topical interests. The classification of children’s books contained within this library will range from Scholastic Readers and Picture books, generally intended for early readers ages 4 and older, up to Reading Level (RL) 5 chapter books for ages 9 to 12. RL1 to RL4 chapter books for ages 6-9 will also be well represented, with many popular series titles, and while there is a heavier presence of fiction themed subjects, non-fiction will also be included, albeit in lesser numbers.

These are quality used books with an original retail value of over $4,000 dollars. Given the majority are previously owned or read, some may exhibit common trademark signs of previous ownership. For instance, written names, stickers or slightly frayed corners are some examples. They have all been hand selected by like type or by series title to ensure they are in good reading condition and many will appear to be unread or like new. Some of the popular titles include Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones, Goosebumps, Animorphs, Harry Potter, Captain Underpants, Amelia Bedelia, Magic School Bus, and many Scholastic book series titles which are read regularly in classrooms of schools.

With endless new technological changes to compete for their attention or financial barriers which restrict available resources, children are no longer reading like they have in the past. Children growing up in low-income communities need a constructive outlet which can help them focus on education and inspire them. “My vision is to continue to promote the positive emotional connection children develop through a love of reading”, says Mr. Ha.

SellUsedBooks.com allows users to easily sell books for cash. With instant buyback quotes, free shipping and fast payment, selling books and textbooks can be done in one simple transaction. For any non-profit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area that can put these books to good use and whose mission closely mirrors the outlined criteria, please contact SellUsedBooks.com using their online contact form.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Dec 05, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) –
Zephyr Real Estate is once again accepting contributions for the
annual Food and Toy drives to benefit those who need a little help
this holiday season. As with prior years, the San Francisco
Firefighters Toy Program and the San Francisco Food Bank are the
recipients of the donations from all six offices in San Francisco. To
find the nearest Zephyr office to drop off a donation, visit

www.zephyrsf.com .

Last year, the SF Firefighters Toy Program gave away 40,000 toys to
over 25,000 children. Dependent solely upon donations, this program
is the City’s largest of its kind and has been actively brightening
the holidays for disadvantaged children since 1949. Their work is not
only around the holidays, but throughout the year for displaced
children who become victims of fires, floods and other disasters.
Annually, approximately 200,000 toys are distributed. Toys should be
new and without gift-wrapping.

The San Francisco Food Bank expects to distribute food to over 36,000
households during the holidays. Their goal is to raise 200,000 pounds
of food — enough to provide food for more than 825,000 meals. The
Food Bank supplies food to over 450 local non-profit organizations
that serve thousands of families, seniors, children and individuals.
Food items should be non-perishable. Most-needed foods are tuna and
canned meats, cereal, peanut butter, beans, rice, pasta, soups and
stews, 100 percent fruit juices, and canned fruits and vegetables.
While shopping during the next month, buy an extra can of food.

“When you donate toys and food to those in need, you offer a spark of
hope and a bit of encouragement to children and families,” remarked
Randall Kostick, Chief Operating Officer for Zephyr. “We can all help
create a better world by participating in these worthwhile
endeavors.”
